Shetorgalo: A Symbol of Traditional Architectural Art
In the heart of Kerman’s hot and dry climate, where the summer heat seems endless, stands a historic mansion from the Qajar era. This building is not only a shelter from the heat but also a display of Iranian architectural ingenuity. Shatergalo is a distinguished legacy from the early Qajar period, designed as a summer residence to provide comfort during the hot days.
The mansion features two tall, symmetrical windcatchers, like angel wings, which draw fresh air from the desert into the interior spaces. The coolness produced by this airflow, along with the pools and greenery in the two charming courtyards — the Orange Garden and the Pomegranate Garden — recreates a dreamy image of pleasant summers from the past.
The artistic vaulted ceilings, stunning plasterwork, and exquisite interior decorations demonstrate the precision, creativity, and grandeur of Qajar architecture. This art both soothes and preserves cultural heritage in every brick and inscription.
The restoration and revival of this valuable building were carried out by the skilled team at Armaghan Sarouj Khesht Talaee. Drawing on over two decades of experience in restoring historical monuments and with a deep respect for the building’s authenticity, they breathed new life into Shatergalo’s silent structure. Today, the mansion stands not only as a historic monument but as a living ode to the art, nature, and architecture of Iran.
